About Us!
Who Are We?  What Do We Do?

The Alliance for the Separation of School & State has a two-fold mission:

1.      Help parents and others understand the true nature and the dangers of compulsory state schooling.

2.      Show parents and others how they can take back their freedom and ensure a bright future for their children and our country.

Through our web site, literature, conferences, speaking engagements, our newsletter and our many volunteers, we spread this message of hope and liberty, we encourage parents to Keep their Children, and we encourage others to support parents in this cause.

Founded in 1994 by educators and parents, the Alliance for the Separation of School & State is a non-partisan, non-profit educational foundation.  The Alliance has no political or religious affiliations.  We limit ourselves to educating and leave to others any lobbying, initiatives, electioneering, or litigation needed to liberate schools from government.

Contributions in excess of the value of premiums are tax-deductible as charitable contributions under IRS Section 501(c)(3).

On April 25, 2010, Alan Schaeffer was a guest on the last hour of Rule of Law Radio discussing the case against government control of education. Listen to Alan here. [If you are not able to make the connection using Internet Explorer, we suggest you use Firefox instead.]

Hear Alan's interview with Prodos on the Solid Vox network in 2007 - about why the state should not control education.

The Alexis de Tocqueville Award was conceived by Marshall Fritz in 1995 to honor very special people who advance educational freedom.  Learn more about the award and its recipients.

Our proclamation is a declaration of independence -

A statement that declares that each signer believes people should be free to educate their children for a real future, for a free future, and not be forced to have them educated for the government's future.

Over the years, our proclamation has gone through a number of revisions.  We thought we'd share some of the earlier versions so you could see how we got where we are today!
